Mexico stocks higher at close of trade; S&P/BMV IPC up 0.72%

Investing.com – Mexico stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Industrials, Consumer Goods & Services and Consumer Staples sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Mexico, the S&P/BMV IPC gained 0.72%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/BMV IPC were Grupo Elektra , S.A.B. De C.V. (BMV:ELEKTRA), which rose 17.80% or 71.02 points to trade at 470.10 at the close. Meanwhile, Wal Mart de Mexico SAB de CV (BMV:WALMEX) added 7.86% or 4.49 points to end at 61.59 and Bolsa Mexicana De Valores SAB De CV (BMV:BOLSAA) was up 4.26% or 1.44 points to 35.22 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Orbia Advance Corporation SAB de CV (BMV:ORBIA), which fell 5.34% or 0.96 points to trade at 17.03 at the close. Qualitas Controladora, SAB De CV (BMV:Q) declined 4.93% or 8.50 points to end at 163.92 and Alsea , S.A.B. De C.V. (BMV:ALSEA) was down 3.26% or 1.50 points to 44.57.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Mexico Stock Exchange by 147 to 93 and 8 ended unchanged.

Shares in Orbia Advance Corporation SAB de CV (BMV:ORBIA) fell to 5-year lows; falling 5.34% or 0.96 to 17.03.

Gold Futures for February delivery was down 1.56% or 42.34 to $2,667.06 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 1.51% or 1.06 to hit $71.08 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 1.24% or 0.91 to trade at $74.32 a barrel.

USD/MXN was down 0.26% to 20.15, while EUR/MXN unchanged 0.02% to 21.16.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.00% at 106.64.
